The owners of this beautiful cedar shingle home in Essex were looking for a way to enjoy the outdoors without the nuisance of mosquitos and greenheads that swarm from the marsh right by the home. Luckily their backyard had plenty of space for a custom screened in porch. The interior of the porch has V-match walls treated with pickling oil stain to maintain a natural look revealing the wood grain and knots. The client selected WeatherMaster vertical four track vinyl windows that slide open up to 75%. The flooring is Timbertech in shade Dark Hickory. We built in structural blocking into the frame to accommodate the classic bench porch swing hand picked by the client. Versatex was used throughout the exterior, we opted for horizontal skirting for a contemporary finish. As an added layer of protection we were sure to install screens underneath the flooring to keep the bugs out. Finally, recessed lights and a ceiling fan finished up this bug free outdoor living space.
